A Bit of History

The Swallow is a popular weathervane in Irish folklore. It was generally believed that if the swallows flew high in the sky, then the weather was going to be good. If they flew low on the horizon, the opposite was true. If Swallows arrived early in the season, the summer would be good, but only if they came in sufficient numbers. If they were few, then the weather would be mixed.

As an aside, you must never let a Swallow gather your hair clippings for its nest. If it does, you’ll have headaches all summer long!
