A Bit of History

The Kingfisher is traditionally associated with the Halcyon days, a period of calm in otherwise tempestuous times. In ancient lore it was believed that the kingfisher’s made its nest on the seas and laid it’s eggs around St Martin’s day (11th November) ensuring there would be a two week period around this time when the seas would remain calm.

Kingfishers in fact breed in tunnels dug in vertical banks along streams and rivers and rarely move from their territory.
