A Bit of History

In the lore of West Cork, Feathery Phillip’s day is the day that never comes.

Unlike the pleasant hoot of the Tawny Owl, the Barn Owl does not warble with the most dulcet of tones.

In fact the high screeching voice of the Barn Owl was often likened to that of an enthusiastic but talentless singer and in Donegal, the sobriquet “scréachóg reilige” was used to describe these tone deaf divas.
