A Bit of History

In Irish tradition, the Plover is a herald of frosty weather. Their arrival on the coast was taken as a sign that harsh weather would soon follow. In folktales, the Plover is often portrayed as a wary and alert sentry and it was said that Brian Boru trained a group of plovers to sound the alarm at the approach of enemy troops.
