Kerry folklore has the Sea Eagle or White Tailed Eagle as an unusually long lived creature with a lifespan of three crí. This measure of a crí encompasses the time it takes to dig a field, plant potatoes, then put in oats, and then leave it fallow so that there’s no sign that the field was ever planted at all.
The Eagle was believed to be able to stare directly into the sun itself, such was its fierce nature. In Celtic mythology, the eagle is portrayed as a wise sage and prophet.
