A Bit of History

Tigh Neachtain is located on the corner of Cross Street and Quay Street in the heart of Galway City. Since 1894, it has been run by the Neachtain family, who had a pub on High Street before they moved to the current premises. Tigh Neachtain’s strong connection with Galway’s arts and musical communities adds to the allure of its already welcoming interior. The fact that the pub is beloved of such diverse groups as actors, artists, buskers, business people, and tourists, all mingling in close proximity, makes this rambling pub a unique spot full of snugs to settle into—you can never just stay for the one pint. It’s also a regular host to traditional music whether an organised concert or an impromptu session, and some of the most talented musicians on the planet have played in Tigh Neachtain including Sharon Shannon, Brendan O’Regan, Deirbhile Ni Bhrolchain, Kevin Hough, Breda Smyth and Brian Lennon.
