The Great Western Greenway meanders from Achill Sound, past the glistening sands of Mulranny and on through picturesque Newport, finally coming to an end on the Georgian streets of Westport—or the other way around! It depends on which way you’re going.
We hired bikes in Newport and after a short trip by shuttle bus, struck out from Achill eastwards along the edge of Clew bay. We had the wind at our back and the rain in our faces and with the ever-changing light of the West, the journey was spectacular.
The section shown here is the approach to Mulranny from the west. We saw hares and foxes, geese, and swans. I’ve hidden a few in the picture.
