Clew Bay is probably the best-known part of coastal County Mayo and definitely an area I’ll revisit in the future (I’ve illustrated a number of the lighthouses that dot that part of the coastline). For this poster, I headed further north to Downpatrick Head and the Dun Bríste sea stack. Surprisingly, there are the remains of a dwelling on the stack, and despite some dubious old tales involving Saint Patrick waving his magic staff, the fact is that this rock was part of the mainland until the 1300’s when heavy seas severed it from the adjoining cliffs.
