As you pull in to the Curragh racecourse, you’re left in no doubt as to what a major part of Irish life horse racing is. The wealth surrounding it is immediately apparent, from the stands and paddocks to the trainers and owners and indeed the punters themselves. For all that, horse racing remains an accessible sport open to all. Knowing little of the form, I stayed away from the bookies and instead took my sketchbook over to the parade ring and along the side of the course to try and capture some of the speed and power of the horses.
