The coastal suburb of Dún Laoghaire is popular for strolls on the East and West Piers, and locally caught fish and chips. The National Maritime Museum of Ireland displays its fascinating collection of nautical art and artifacts inside a 19th-century sailors’ church, while the harbour is a busy hub for fishing, water sports and cruises. Dun Laoghaire was home to Ireland’s first ever railway, which ran between Dublin, and Kingstown (as the town was known in 1834). In 1844 the world’s first Atmospheric Railway ran between Kingstown and Dalkey.
