A Bit of History

There has been a tavern on this spot since the 14th century when it was known as the Wooden Man due to the wooden Viking figure which stood on the corner of the street. The pub has been known by various names through the years, among them Monk’s and then Farrington’s, named after a character in James Joyce’s Dubliners. The current name, the Norseman, was chosen after archaeological digs in the 1970s unearthed the remains of viking longships nearby.
