A Bit of History

Kilternan (Irish: Cill Tiarnáin, meaning ‘Church of Tiarnán’), is a village in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, located in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains.

The unique timber-built Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Wayside or ‘The Blue Church’ as it is known locally, was constructed in 1929 in the rustic Italianate style popular in the rural United States and was built to accommodate the increased local population in the area following the First World War.  Despite having a seating capacity of only 150, it has become one of the most popular choices as a Dublin wedding venue with more than 2,000 being recorded so far.

Our Lady of the Wayside is the patron saint of travelers and her feast day is celebrated on May 24th.
