After Carrauntoohil in Kerry, we were always taught, the next most important mountain in Ireland was Errigal. I always took that to mean it was the second highest, but in fact it’s way down that list. In terms of impressiveness though, it’s head and shoulders above the rest. Depending on the direction you approach it from and the light on the day, Errigal shapeshifts, but never disappoints. It’s especially impressive in the spring when the quartzite rock glows in the dying light while the last of the winter snow clings on to its flanks.
