First established in 1770, the Stags Head was rebuilt in 1895 by architect A.J McLoughlin. A veritable shrine to the art of drink, the bar was designed with stag themed stained glass windows, mirrors, wood panelling, and of course a large stag’s head over the bar. This lavishly re-designed Victorian bar was an instant success with Dublin punters in the 1890s and was even frequented by a young James Joyce.
