Killybegs is situated at the head of a scenic, natural deepwater harbour and at the base of a vast mountainous tract extending northward. The town hosts Ireland’s largest fishing port and the harbour is often chock-a-block with trawlers.
The town is also famous for its tapestries and carpets, some of which were produced on the biggest carpet loom in the world at the “Donegal Carpet Factory”. The carpets, known as Donegals, are hand-knotted in the Turkish style.
