Enniscorthy, County Wexford

Enniscorthy (Irish: Inis Córthaidh) is the second-largest town in County Wexford, Ireland.  Located on the picturesque River Slaney and in close proximity to the Blackstairs Mountains and Ireland’s longest beach, Curracloe, Enniscorthy is probably best known for its association with the uprising of 1798 and the key battle site at nearby Vinegar Hill.

The cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ferns is located in the town as well as an array of other historical sites including the imposing Norman stronghold of Enniscorthy Castle, which  dominates the town from its perch overlooking the river . The castle dates from 1205 and remained a private dwelling until 1951. It now houses the Wexford County Museum.
