My intention is to keep adding to the collection. I’m constantly out sketching and drawing this fascinating country of ours and I hope in time to have a poster for each county, north and south and for most of the larger towns in between.

A bit of history

Balbriggan is Ireland’s second oldest active lighthouse, after Hook Head. When nearby Rockabill lighthouse was established, Balbriggan was relegated to the status of a harbour light and by the 1960’s, corrosion had damaged the dome beyond repair, and the decision was taken to remove it. The fixed light was then replaced by a flashing unit mounted on a column. Since September 2018 (too late for my Lighthouses of Ireland book), the lantern dome has been restored to the tower and the lighthouse once again looks much as it did throughout most of its history. I drove down on the night of a supermoon. I’ve taken a little artistic license, but the harbour looked magical in the unusually warm moonlight.
