A Bit of History

The Copper Coast Geopark is a designated area located along the Waterford coast in Ireland’s Southeast, extending for some 17 km from Kilfarrasy in the east to Stradbally in the west.  The Copper Coast is named for the vast copper mines that operated here during the 19th century leaving behind an archaeological and cultural legacy.

The Copper Coast Drive embraces panoramic seascapes, cliffs, secluded bays and coves alongside intimate seaside resorts with Blue Flag beaches such as  Clonea and Bunmahon. Along the way, it passes through the lovely villages of Boatstrand, Dunhill, Annestown and Fenor.

460 million years in the making, the Copper Coast Geopark was the first Geopark designated in Ireland.
