My intention is to keep adding to the collection. I’m constantly out sketching and drawing this fascinating country of ours and I hope in time to have a poster for each county, north and south and for most of the larger towns in between.

A bit of history

One of my favourites. Built on a tidal rock, Haulbowline has the classic bell shape to dissipate and break up waves crashing around its base. The Romeo and Juliet balcony halfway up was actually designed to carry a supplementary half tide light rather than for any serenading by the keeper’s wives.

It was originally painted white, but was restored to its natural colour seventy years ago.

Greenore lighthouse looks forlorn and uncared for because of course it is (forlorn and uncared for). Like the lighthouse at Ferris Point, the illumination from the docklands have rendered the lighthouse redundant. The seagulls still appreciate it though!

I hear plans are afoot to preserve and restore it. Here’s hoping.
